Vomiting and Diarrhoea
Vomiting and diarrhoea are common childhood illnesses that are often caused by viral gastroenteritis (“gastro”). These illnesses can spread quickly among children, particularly in childcare and school settings. Although most children recover within a few days, dehydration can become a concern, especially in babies and younger children.
At Parkhill Medical Centre, our doctors provide assessment, hydration advice, and ongoing support to help children recover safely and comfortably.
Symptoms we commonly assess include:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Stomach pain
- Fever
- Reduced appetite
- Signs of dehydration
- Fatigue or lethargy
Our team can help parents understand how to manage symptoms at home, maintain hydration, and recognise warning signs that may require further medical care.
Signs that should prompt medical review include:
- Persistent vomiting
- Inability to keep fluids down
- Dry lips or reduced urination
- Severe abdominal pain
- Blood in vomit or stool
- High fever or unusual drowsiness
We aim to provide supportive, family-centred care while helping children recover as quickly as possible.
